Healthy eating

Having worked in the world of paediatric dietetics since 2003 and with 2 children of my own I know many of the challenges that can be faced. My own children are like chalk and cheese when it comes to eating; one will literally try and likes virtually everything, whilst the other fluctuates on a daily basis!

During my professional career I have seen hundreds of children with a whole range of feeding/nutritional issues and I know what a huge toll this can take on families. The child might be in considerable pain in discomfort, disinterested in eating or in older children have developed an eating disorder. For the parents they are probably feeling a whole range of emotions - often stress, guilt, anxiety and exhaustion.

However, the good news is that by all working together to establish the causes of the problems, identifying what needs to change and setting a plan together we can improve things. My aim is to correctly identify the underlying causes of the problem by asking you to provide me with as much information as possible. This might include a food and symptom diary, plus a feeding history and I might even need to assess mum's diet if she is breastfeeding as this can sometimes impact on the infant's nutrition.

Once I have made a full assessment I can start to advise you on how to modify either the child's diet (or in certain cases mum's diet). I will not only ensure that the cause of the problem is avoided, but also that your child's diet is nutritionally complete.

I will provide you with as much information as possible to enable you all to make informed choices.

I would expect to provide at least 2 consultations to ensure that any changes suggested are effective and sustainable.

I have included a list of some of the common nutritional difficulties  encountered by children that I have direct experience of dealing with. The list is not exhaustive and please feel free to contact me if you have a concern that is not shown.
